ARROW® MAC (Multi-Lumen Access Catheter) with ARROWg+ard® Blue Technology
The ARROW® MAC with ARROWg+ard® Blue Technology is a unique product designed to meet the needs of a variety of patient types — from trauma to cardiac. The catheter combines the access of a sheath introducer with the high-flow lumens of a central line. The ARROW® MAC's hemostasis valve allows for easy access for additional devices, such as a thermodilution catheter or ARROW® MAC Companion Catheter adding up to three additional lumens. The 9 french distal lumen accommodates large fluid volumes when needed, while the 12 gauge proximal lumen provides a separate access for incompatible fluid administration.
The ARROW® MAC uses Teleflex's proprietary chlorhexidine-based antimicrobial technology proven to protect your patients from the known pathogens of Catheter-Related Bloodstream Infections (CRBSIs).
The ARROW® ErgoPack® System provides 30 essential tools systematically organized for procedural ease. The ErgoPack® System integrates the latest infection prevention and safety measures recommended by the CDC, SHEA/IDSA, IHI, JCAHO, NHSN and OSHA into one convenient bundle.

What is the function of the obturator on the ARROW® MAC? Is there a danger to the patient if the obturator is not placed into the introducer upon removal of an indwelling catheter? Are these obturators available separately?
The hemostasis valves in the ARROW® MAC must be occluded at all times to minimize the risk of patient air embolism or hemorrhage. If catheter introduction is delayed, or the catheter is removed, temporarily cover the valve opening with a sterile-gloved finger until a catheter or obturator is inserted. Use an ARROW® Obturator, either included with the introducer or sold separately, as a dummy catheter with hemostasis valve/side port assembly and sheath. This will ensure that leakage does not occur and the inner seal is protected from contamination. Sold separately: Product #AO-09000
Can we use the ARROW® MAC with a power injector? What is the maximum pounds per square inch (psi) that can be injected through the ARROW® MAC?
The ARROW® MAC is not indicated for pressure injection, and is not designed to withstand the higher pressures associated with contrast used during CT scans. Internal testing has shown the ARROW® MAC is capable of pressure up to 45 psi. The minimum strength of 45 psi allows for hand injections performed with a 10 cc or larger syringe, as indicated. The ARROW® MAC can also be used with most rapid infusers which typically utilize 5.8 psi or 300 mmHg (millimeters of mercury). For more information, contact your rapid infuser manufacturer.
Is the ARROW® MAC MRI compatible? Is the ARROWg+ard® Catheter Antimicrobial Technology also MRI compatible?
Yes. The ARROW® MAC is MRI compatible. The catheters are made entirely of polyurethane and they contain no wire or ferromagnetic material. The catheters have been tested to be compatible to use with an MRI machine. Additionally, chlorhexidine and silver sulfadiazine are organic antimicrobial compounds that do not contain wire or ferromagnetic materials, and are compatible to use during an MRI procedure.
Can the ARROW® MAC be exposed to alcohol or acetone?
The ARROW® MAC can be exposed to alcohol, but the length of the exposure is key. Brief exposure at the insertion site or during a dressing change will not compromise the integrity of the catheter. You should allow skin preps to completely dry, per the manufacturer's Instructions For Use, to minimize exposure. Prolonged exposure to alcohol, such as soaking the catheter in alcohol for a few days, is not recommended and long periods of exposure to alcohol can weaken the structure of the polyurethane. Ethanol lock solutions have not been tested by the manufacturer, and no specific recommendation can be made by the company. Do not use acetone on the catheter surface. Acetone may be applied to skin but must be allowed to dry completely prior to applying dressing.
What are the recommended temperature storage conditions for ARROW® PSI and MAC Products?
The general recommended storage temperature for ARROW® Sheath Introducers is between 20 – 25°C (68 – 77°F). The kits should not be exposed to freezing temperatures at 0°C (32°F) or below, or to excessive heat 40°C (104°F) or above. The temperature controls are provided to ensure the quality, functionality, and safety of our product. The temperature parameters are based on internal testing and individual kit items. Check the product lidstock for more information.
